The Second Annual Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival is scheduled for
April 11-16, 2000 in historic South Beach. This year's Festival promises
to be even bigger and better than last year, with 12 out-of-town guests
attending, including actor Dean Cain, Academy Award-winning gay director
Rob Epstein and others from France, Spain and the U.S.; the world premiere
of a new film about Miami and the battle for the Human Rights Ordinance;
a film with Spanish heartthrob Javier Bardem in his first gay role; and
parties and panels galore.
The Festival exihibits work of all genres, lengths and formats, including
dramatic, documentary and experimental works, by, about and of interest
to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities. Last year,
the five-day festival drew more than 5,000 movie-goers to South Beach in
July. Film buffs sold out the South Florida premiere screenings at the
Colony Theater, attending films from Germany, Australia, England, Spain
and the United States. The Festival evolved from a similar undertaking
of a few years ago, Queer Flickering Light, which produced two successful
events in Miami in 1993 and 1996.
