There were films about coming of age and films about coming out to the folk. There were films about gay people getting married, films about gay people having children and a film about playing it straight down the aisle as a bridesmaid. There were films in English, Spanish, German, Swedish and French. There was even a musical.
The Second Annual Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival had it all, and more than 7,000 South Florida movie-goers attended screenings - all of which were either world, U.S., East Coast or Florida premieres - during the second annual six-day event. The Festival offered the community a savory spread of dramatic feature films, as well as a variety of cutting-edge videos, shorts, documentaries, and alternative programs by, for and about the gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender community.
Festival-goers sold out most screenings at the Colony Theater and Regal South Beach Cinema, attending films from Germany, France, Spain, Sweden, Mexico, England and Miami. After a standing-room-only screening of and a standing ovation for the East Coast preniere of Greg Berlanti's snappy new romantic comedy, The Broken Hearts League, the Film Festival programming committee announced the Festival awards.
The program comittee members are are Jody Benjamin, Donald Chauncey, Emilce Elgarresta, Eric Freedman, Frances Negrón, Sylive Rokab, Robert Rosenberg, Chair and Isaac Santos.
