Strand Releasing Tribute & Retrospective |
The Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival is proud to honor Los Angeles-based distributors Strand Releasing on the occasion of their 15th anniversary in 2004. Formed in 1989 by business partners Marcus Hu and Jon Gerrans, Strand Releasing quickly positioned itself as one of the leading distributors of a specialized niche of independent film in the United States, and were among the very first to recognize the tremendous potential of gay and lesbian film in particular. Today, their collection of gay and lesbian titles is vast and includes many of the most important new works of today, including recent hits Party Monster and Yossi & Jagger. MGLFF's special tribute to Strand founders Hu and Gerrans will unfold before the North American premiere of one of their newest acquisitions, Iron Ladies II, on Saturday, April 24th at 7:30 pm at the Regal Cinemas South Beach. As well, a special Strand Releasing Retrospective sidebar in conjunction with the Miami Beach Cinematheque running during the Festival will feature 5 classics from the Strand Releasing catalogue. This will provide Miami cinemagoers with a tasty theatrical sampling of the scope of Strand's accomplishments in the past 15 years. Please note: tickets for the Strand Releasing Retrospective screenings are available through the Miami Beach Cinematheque box office at 305-673-4567 or at www.mbcinema.com. As this is a co-presentation with the Cinematheque and a sidebar only to the main Festival, MGLFF members unfortunately cannot use their complimentary tickets for the Strand Releasing Retrospective screenings. - HOWEVER, all sceenings at the Cinematheque are only $5 for MGLFF members!
