The Opening Night Film of the 2005 San Francisco & Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Film Festivals is coming to Miami!
Ah, the French Riviera! The flavors, the fragrances, the intoxicating mix of beauty and sun! What better place for writer/director partners Jacques Martineau and Olivier Ducasel to take their latest lighthearted look at human foibles, Cote d'Azur, than in the European version of our very own South Floridian paradise?
Martineau & Ducasel are known for a series of comedy/dramas that are simple on plot and complex on character - Jeanne and the Perfect Guy (1998), The Adventures of Felix (an MGLFF special event in 2001) and My Life on Ice (2003). With a forgiving eye to the transgressions of the heart, Martineau & Ducasel find meaning and joy in those small moments of revelation that can sometimes change the entire direction of our lives.
Cote d'Azur follows what seems like a typical young French family taking their annual summer vacation in the South of France. This year, however, Marc & Beatrix must deal with the burgeoning sexuality of their two teenage children. The younger child, Charly, invites his "best friend" Martin down to stay with them, and Beatrix immediately becomes suspicious about the true nature of the boys' relationship. But it's not what she thinks! By the end of the summer, everything that everyone thinks about everybody else will prove to be completely incorrect!
Jean-Marc Barr, the sexy star of several films by Lars Von Trier (Europa) and Luc Besson (The Big Blue), makes a pivotal appearance late in the film as the local gay plumber. Italian-born bombshell Valeria Bruni Tedeschi cuts a memorably sensual figure as Beatrix, the family matriarch.
The original title of Cote d'Azur in France was Crustaces et Coquillages, a tribute to the sexy feeling of seaside resort seafood dining - oysters, shrimps, lobsters, scallops - that quite often works as an aphrodisiac. In virtually the same way, Cote d'Azur is all but guaranteed "to put you in the mood"! In French with English subtitles.
WE'VE GOT YOU COVERED - After the screening, we invite you to our "Cote de South Beach" after-screening party seaside by the seashells at the Delano Hotel, 1685 Collins Ave., South Beach, in partnership with SoBe Social Club.
