Shifting location from the leafy canopies of Sherwood Forest, Robin Hood is given a contemporary make-over in the hands of rookie director Sarah Millman, who locates her story in the inner-city neighborhoods of Oakland, California. By chance, Brooklyn (named like the city and the bridge), a white French mechanic and bold thief, meets Robin, an African American social worker working selflessly with the underprivileged. Seduced by Brooklyn's edgy charm, the duo embark on a whirlwind love-affair. This allegory of Robin Hood unfurls when Robin suddenly quits her job and decides to re-address the needs of her community. Fueled by Brooklyn's drive to steal from the rich, the two of them, with the aid of long black wigs and sunglasses, set out on a spree to steal from banks and re-distribute the cash, food, art-supplies and toys they buy with the stolen loot, back into the inner-city. When a bank heist goes wrong, the future looks uncertain. With on screen chemistry oozing between gorgeous lead stars Brooklyn (Clody Cates) and Robin (Khahtee V. Turner), Robin's Hood, shot on a micro-budget of $17,000, is a film with a big full pumping heart and philanthropic message.
