From award-winning filmmaker Rémi Lange comes an aching new love story of two young Arab men living in Paris. For reasons he has yet to discover, straight Karim (played with restless intensity by Karim Tarek) chooses "male homosexuality in Arab culture" as the subject of his documentary for college sociology. At first, he has some good laughs with his girlfriend over the exotic oddities of gay life that he discovers. Then comes Farid, who starts out a "gay subject" and soon becomes a friend. The most beautiful thing about Farid is his patience. Sure, he wants more, and in Riyad Echahi's stunningly understated performance, we can feel every moment of his buried longing as if it were our own. But Farid lives fully in the vagaries of this new friendship, and in so doing, opens up a whole new part of Karim's soul. The "research" trips to North Africa become, for Karim, a passionate and deepening journey of self - discovery. Soon, Farid joins him, and their odyssey of fragmented train rides and rocky beaches culminates in a visit to Jean Genet's hilltop grave - and a wrenching ultimatum. Whatever you do, don't confuse this for a hastily - assembled video diary. As a director and editor, Lange is hard-wired to his characters' souls, celebrating with stunning precision each tender nuance of blossoming love. Like Farid, Director Lange is patient, and what lies at the end of The Road to Love is truly breathtaking.
