Opening a few minutes before 6 pm on a typically vivid, sweltering Friday night in San Juan, "12 horas" intertwines parallel stories of more than a dozen characters in an adventure so intensely sexual, heated and funny it will knock the socks off even seasoned South Beachers. Three giggly young co-workers, whose raunchy banter would make the girls of Sex and the City blush, knock back the tequila and hit the town on the hunt for men; a male gigolo services an unbalanced client; a 16-year-old sets out determined to lose her virginity; and a petty thief holds up a convenience store at gunpoint, terrorizing a trio of tacky drag queens and giving a well-known lifestyle TV reporter her biggest break yet...and that's just the first 6 hours! Skillfully orchestrating all plots to culminate in a whirlwind crescendo at 3 am in a huge gay club, Eros, where transsexual superstar Jacqueline Bom Bom performs her newest show, Caramelo y Chocolate, and the "anaconda" in the gigolo's pants gets a whole new kind of workout, writer-director Rául Marchand-Sánchez has delivered a delirious and hysterical film that also has its serious side. As the night draws to a close, a minor on-screen character undergoes a transformation so startling and unexpected it drives home gripping points about the level of both private and public homosexual acceptance in Puerto Rican society today.
