EAST COAST PREMIERE
Two years before a gay Boy Scout faced the Supreme Court in August
2000, a lesser-known movement of California youth and adult leaders,
both gay and straight, coalesced in opposition to the Boy Scouts of
America's anti-gay ban.Ý At the heart of the movement, and at the
heart of this confident and deeply affecting new documentary, is an
unwavering love of scouting itself, a conviction that the BSA's policy
contradicts the moral code and camaraderie so central to the group's
tradition.Ý Wonderful archival footage and contemporary scenes of
scout acitivities and outings take on a wrenching resonance as the
grassroots campaign faces court defeats, community hostilityÝ and
BSA retaliation.Ý Standing out among the film's many heroes is straight
scout Steven Cozza, who grows from a fidgety 12-year old into a charismatic
national activist during the shooting of the film.Ý Steven's sense
of justice, like the film's storytelling grace, is at once unassuming
and breathtaking. Winner of the Documentary Audience Award and
Freedom of Expression Award at this year's Sundance Film Festival.Ý
Director Tom Shepard will attend the screening and discuss the film
with the audience.

EAST COAST PREMIEREÝÝ At this branch of the IRS they're digging up
more than your old receipts.Ý When a Hollywood-handsome couple (he's
an upcoming TV star, she does feng-shui) gets called in for
an audit, they're set upon by an examiner with his own private axe
to grind, played by gay indie-king Alexis Arquette, and his lecherous
lesbian secretary, the classically off-kilter Sally Kirkland. Stolen
kisses (not the heterosexual variety), old betrayals and truly strange
behavior give this bittersweet comedy a biting edge.Ý Director
Brian To and actor Alexis Arquette will attend the screening.
