Directed by Juan Luis Iborra & Yolanda GarcÌa-Serrano
Spain
The film's title refers to "KilÛmetro Cero," a picturesque
central square in the heart of Madrid, but it may as well describe
the aimless lives of the fourteen strangers whose stories collide
here one sultry August afternoon.Ý Retaining their trademark warmth
and vivaciousness, directors Iborra and GarcÌa Serrano (winners of
our 1999 Best Fiction Feature and Audience Favorite awards for Amor
de hombre) gracefully orchestrate a roundelay of mistaken identities
and second chances that revolves around a motley crew of AlmodÛvar-esque
characters.Ý These include a sensitive but horny gay university student
looking for his soulmate in the buffed flamenco dancer who mistakes
him for an internet trick; the dancer's intended online companion,
who instead hooks up with a repressed presumably straight businessman
starved for sexual experience; and a macho but lovelorn gigolo who
treats his female clients a little too well.Ý Added to the mix are
a desperate actress who belts out Cabaret's "Maybe This
Time" in a crowded diner to win a part and an ever-miserable
prostitute whose life gets a boost from an aspiring filmmaker, played
by hunky Carlos Fuentes of No se lo digas a nadie.Ý With sweet-natured
erotic fluidity, these interconnecting stories build up a collective
momentum that, like the heat, intoxicates and is impossible to resist.Ý
In this sexy comedy of errors, the road to love is never a straight
line. ÝIn Spanish with English subtitles.ÝÝ Director Juan Luis
Iborra will attend the screening and discuss the film with the audience.
