Lovers are great but sometimes having good friends can be better.  That's the lesson four gay buddies learn in this snappy independent film from record producer Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds' own production company.  By making its four leads African American or Hispanic, Punks  breaks new ground by bending and blending the genres of gay romantic comedy and the music and dance-infused hip contemporary drama.  And drama develops early on when Hill, the HIV-positive elder statesman of the bunch, spots his cute French boyfriend kissing another man at his 30th birthday party and flips out. Then there's fashion photographer Marcus, the true center of the story, who yearns to capture real life (and real hotties) on film, but never seems to connect, or get to bed with anyone.  Dante, the youngest, and the only Latin in the group, still lives with his wealthy parents in Beverly Hills and experiences life as though it were one long party - until eventually reality bites.  Last but never least is Miss Crystal, the street-smart diva leader of the drag queen act The Sisters.  Their extravagant production numbers at the gay club Miss Smokie's, built around the classic disco songs of Sister Sledge, are woven in and out of the film and serve as a counterpoint to the story.  When super-hunk Darby moves in next door to Marcus (whose pool-side home is the group's de facto headquarters), and the camera lovingly lingers on his shirtless sweaty torso as he unloads his van, the plot thickens.  With Miami-familiar faces Kevin Aviance (Miss Smokie herself) and Nayib Estefan in a surprise cameo appearance, and a kicking soundtrack of classic and original songs ready for radio play.
Director Patrik -Ian Polk will attend the screening and discuss his work with the audience.
