EAST COAST PREMIERE

Not a documentary but a beautiful and entertaining narrative feature,
The Einstein of Sex
combines an almost Hollywood-lush approach to screen
biography with the trademark sardonic humor, unusual tableaus and sometimes
sexually explicit visuals of long-time bad-boy gay filmmaker Rosa Von
Pronheim.
Vividly recreating Germany and the homosexual
underworld of Berlin at the turn of the last century, The Einstein of Sex
brings to life the story of pioneering gay-rights activist Magnus
Hirschfeld.

director, "Einstein of Sex" &

Please?"

It depicts Hirschfield's own personal journey of a Jewish
gay man coming to terms with himself, and his remarkable decision to make
homosexuality a political cause cÈlËbre by fighting existing
19th century German anti-sodomy laws. Requited and unrequited loves,
a fiercely loyal transgendered housekeeper and a neo-fascist gay nemesis
are just some of the characters who populate the film and Hirschfield's
own budding circle of free-thinking gay men and women.
While the
The Einstein of Sex dramatically shows how the Nazis tragically
obliterated Magnus Hirschfield's life's work at the dawn of World War II,
he is remembered and honored today as the "forefather" of the contemporary
gay rights movement. In German with English subtitles.
